My first time at this museum was in the 60s. All the Locomotives were on a track that was in a circle. You were allowed to crawl all over the Engines which I did. There were no steps going to the cabs or alongside the boilers. I remember going from the cab onto the walkway alongside the boiler which meant I had to go through the small door in front of the Engineer. The Dwight D Eisenhower was undercover and all the furnishings were original. The train ride was being pulled by a live steam Locomotive. The next time I went was in the '80s. Much had changed by that time. At some point, the Dwight D Eisenhower was being pulled out in preparation for a trip to Texas. The diesel engine used to pull out the Mallard had a chimney fire and shot flames from its stack some 20 feet into the air. A man standing next to me asked if I got that on video which I said yes. We talked for a while and he asked me if I had had my train ride yet. I said no and he said, "How would you like to ride in the cab"? It turned out he was one of the executives of the Museum. My son and I rode in the fireman's side. It was a steam locomotive but no live steam. Instead, they put a diesel engine in the coal car and that pushed the engine and pulled the cars. My understanding is the locals complained about the dirty noisy live steam engines and were forced to stop live steam runs. What a shame! Still, it is a great museum to go to.

I see this post was several years ago. However just my 2 cents worth, some kids do come around just like mine did. But it was too late the seed of division and lying was well planted. My 2 grown kids learned how to manipulate me better than their mom. Didn't take long for their disrespect and sabotage me into their games. I have been called some vile names I will not repeat but it sounded just like something their mom would say. I had to make a decision either I beg and try to buy their love or I cut ties and haul butt. This choice has left me without seeing my 4 granddaughters one I havent ever seen. So take it from a target parent for 24+ years it doesn't matter what you do the song remains the same!!

Good visit and good video. But I do need to point out that Dwight D. Eisenhower was originally built for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in 1937, it was originally named Golden Shuttle and numbered 4496. She was renamed in 1945 after the war. British Railways didn't exist until after the war when both the big four companies (LNER, London Midland and Scottish Railway - LMS, Southern Railway - SR and Great Western Railway -GWR) were nationalised by Clement Attlee's Labour government in 1948 to form British Railways. The war had worn out the railways and the big four had run out of money and the railways were in desperate need to rebuilding and restructuring hence why they were nationalised. All the locos of the former LNER, LMS, GWR and SR were simply handed over to BR and were repainted and renumbered in BR liveries and BR numbers. With No.4496 being renumbered 60008.

I’ve been here before. It was the coolest actually seeing an LNER A1 in the states! In one of the old sheds, they store an old Thomas the Tank Engine shell from rail fair 1993, it’s all bent out of shape and broken, you should check it out next time you go there!

Well, let be the voice of harsh criticism, although constructive and completely honest, so take it for what it's worth. Knowing that my understanding of your situation is very limited, it seems to me like you're allowing this type of behavior to take place. I know what it is like to have a sh!tt y ex who wants you out of the picture, however you need to focus on being a great parent and ignoring your ex's personal life. Everything should be for your children and you need to spend every bit of free time learning the laws and doing whatever it takes in order to enforce what's in the best interest of your children. If your ex breaches what's in the best interest of your kids you take her ass to court with an attorney. You need to stand up for yourself stop being a b!tch and take control of the situation, record your ex breaking the court order, do what the court expects from you. Most importantly get over your ex she's a c unt get over it and never bring her up in another conversation again, it's obvious that you're more focused on her then anything else, go find someone new and you will learn that your ex is not that special.

One of the streamlined A4s has the namesake to the designer himself and that is 60007 unusually as 4498

I suspect you were surprised to see 60008 the A4 locomotive built by sir Nigel gresley during the 30s at Doncaster in Yorkshire

Im now wondering is that both 60008 and 60010 can return back to the U.K. base this time to get overhaul started and return back to the mainline

And the 4 a4s which are still reside in U.K. are 60009 60007 60019 and 60022 the loco which achieved 126mph

The other a4 that you can’t see is 4489 dominion of Canada based in Montreal

One thing you didn’t know mate is that 60008 is one of the 6 preserved a4s to be here today

Say I wanted to boat from Big Lake in three Lakes all they way to the damn, then after the lift, all the way to the town of Eagle River. What is the lowest bridge clearance height? Would a typical pontoon boat with canvas top fit under the lowest bridge?

The locomotive Dwight D Eisenhower was built during the Second World War for the London North Eastern Railway. British Rail came much later during the privatisation of Britain's railways under one company. It was just decided to leave her under that livery.

I’ve actually had the pleasure of visiting this museum! It’s such a great place to see the events before, during, and after the war. And most of the exhibits are Midwestern-based, so it’s pretty easy to relate to :)

The British A4 class loco Dwight D Eisenhower that you saw was actually built by the LNER/London North Eastern Railway in the 30s and was designed by Sir nigel gresley (who also designed the Flying scotsman) and was renamed to Dwight D Eisenhower during WW2 it used to be named somthing else before. It originally worked on tne East coast main line from London to Edinburgh halling the flying scotsman train service. It is also sister engine to the famous MALLARD which is the loco that whent 126mph a record for steam trains that still stands today. I have done a lot of research on British trains in my spear time 😑 don't juge me.

No one in the world could shovel the tons of coal the big boy needed to do what it was built for. Haul long trains up the rocky mountains during world war 2.

We tent camped there this week with my and our kids. We had a great time. It’s close to the lake, safe for kids to ride their bikes etc.... The showers were great! The sites vary though some are bigger than others.

Practice getting rid of the 'uh's' by dropping a coin into an empty coffee can every time you hear yourself saying uh (or have a friend do it during rehearsal). The jarring noise retrains the brain to avoid slipping 'uh' in to breaks while you think of what to say next. Uh is, uh, a useless noise.
